Kathmandu - Arrival & persistence paying off

Well we arrived here in Kathmandu a couple of days ago now. Flights weren't too bad. The flight into Kathmandu was pretty spectacular as we were delayed for a bit and had to circle around before landing. We got to see the Himalayas which was amazing. Even from high up above you could see the snow capped mountains peering through the clouds.

The last few days we've just been walking around Thamel. Its quite a place, very busy, reminds me of Thailand in a way. Just a million motorbikes and small cars whizzing by you.  Horns blarring every second! Plenty of shops over here for hiking gear, mostly fake stuff but some of it is pretty good quality.

Got to see some monkeys yesterday so I was very happy about that!

Now onto the "persistence paying off". So we were walking around the first night we got here and there are street vendors everywhere. Len is into collecting knives and there was a bloke selling knives so Anthony directed this blokes attention to Len. Well, this bloke followed Len for blocks and blocks. Len telling him no, not interested. But this was not going to stop him, he finally broke Len to our amusement. So its been a running gag since then every time we come across a knife shop.

We met our guide last night who assured us that everything was safe up on the EBC trek. We met a girl from Cairns who is on her first ever overseas holiday who is due to trek Annapurna which is where the avalanches a few days ago were. We feel very sorry for her as she doesn't know whether to go or not.  She's got a tough decision to make that's for sure.

Edit:  She ended up canceling and going home. Good call in my book.

Steep steps going down from Monkey Temple.
