Day 11 - Pheriche to Khangjuma

After an extremely cold night that was somewhat offset by a lovely hot shower, we again headed off early for the 13km hike from Pheriche to Khangjuma.

We were now covering ground that we had crossed on our way to base camp. The start of the day was ice cold but as we keep descending we soon warmed up.  The weather from early morning onwards was fantastic. We have been very lucky with the weather for the entire trek.

We stopped in Tengboche for lunch at the bakery which wasn't too bad, we even managed some chocolate cake!  Apparently the bakery owner makes 90k US per year which is amazing for such a tiny and remote location.

The afternoon trek was fairly difficult as we had to descend 600m which was tricky as it was dusty and the rocks were like marbles under foot.  The uphill climb of 300m was pretty brutal as I was struggling for breathe. We got into Khangjuma and we have a really great room with awesome views outside.

The hard trekking is done now and I'll tell you it's a huge relief. The last 2 days are pretty light and I think we'll all enjoy it very much.

  1. It was so good to receive news of your trek on your blog Joe. I am so very proud of you all as it seems it was a little harder than what you thought. I certainly would never have been able to do it. You know me the cold and I don't mix. Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday. Take care and stay safe. Lots of love Mum.
