Day 8 - Dingboche to Lobuche

Today saw us start very early for a 5 hour walk.  Early start was due to there being nowhere for us to have lunch along the way.

The early morning saw is hiking mostly flat plains that looked very much like scenes from The Lord Of The Rings.  Passed some small huts that are used in the summer by yak herders when the pasture is green.  Definitely could only be used in the summer as if in winter you would freeze to death.

We stopped for a tea break at Thukla. This is a very small place but looks like it is growing with a new lodge being built. Seems to be a bit of a theme along the way, plenty of new places going up. Probably a sign on how popular the base camp trek has become.

From the tea spot we could see what was ahead of us, a zig zag climb up a very steep hill. The views looking back were just unbelievable. We reached the top where there are memorials to trekkers who have lost their lives at Everest. Some of them were very young in age.

The rest of the hike was relatively flat with snow either side of the track. Really felt the altitude today. Didn't feel well when we got into camp. Hoping this cold I have does not get any worse.

Tomorrow is the big day, base camp day!
