Don't cry for me Argentina

Well I suppose we should actually kick off this blog seeing as we sent the link to so many people,  we don't want to disappoint our fans!!!

So after 4 flights and 26 waking hours we arrived in Buenos Aires,  it was so hot when we got in.   First night we pretty much just slept as we were so tired,  although we did sneak in a steak before doing that.   It was delicious,  and CHEAP!

The next day we had a free day until the evening before meeting with our fellow travellers so Kel and I thought we'd like to go see the water.   So we walk and we walk and we walk. Then we found it......... and it was pretty much a swamp,  we  were so disappointed.   However it was good to see Buenos Aires during a working day,  it was extremely busy.

Day 2 began with a walking tour of the city.  We headed to the Cemeteria de la Recoleta.   This is where many of the who's who of Argentina are buried.   Eva Peron (Evita) is buried here in a small mausoleum.   The mausoleums were unbelievable.   You can actually buy the plot next to Evita for a cool $230k  US.

After the cemetery tour we went to the town square.   This is basically the gathering place for Argentinians when anything political occurs.  It's an amazing building,  coloured in pink.  We continued on to an older part of Buenos Aires called San Telmo,  which had a lot of very old architecture and cobble stone streets. We then had a Spanish speaking lesson for and hour and a half so we more or less are fluent in Spanish now! I am joking of course,  we have found the language pretty hard to understand but there are some words in sentences that we can understand.   Later that night we had a Tango lesson and then watched the professionals do their thing,  it was amazing!

Today we journeyed about an hour outside of Buenos Aires to an organic farm that adopts orphaned children and teaches them how to live off the land.   It is an inspiring program!!  It was basically started by a very successful business woman who one day just decided to walk away from the corporate world to begin a new venture.

The rest of the day we visited La Boca which is a really colourful few blocks of streets with cafes,  music and shops.  It's very close by the Soccer stadium where Boca Juniors play.   There was a game on tonight but unfortunately we couldn't get tickets.

So that's about it for the first few days,  tomorrow we have to get up about 4am to catch a flight to Iguazu falls in Brazil.

You might be disappointed to hear this but Argentinians are for the most part very very good at parking,  though they do park about 3 inches from the car in front and behind!!

Here are some photos we have taken,  we'll put up another post when we get the time.
